Glasgow 2014: Australia beat England in shootout to win gold



Australia scored a late equalizer and beat England in an emotional punishment shootout to win gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Lily Owsley softened the halt for England up the second half, just for Jodie Kenny to make it 1-1 in the last seconds of typical time.

Furthermore Madonna Blyth ventures up to score the winning punishment to give Australia their fourth Games title.

New Zealand guaranteed bronze with a 5-2 win over South Africa.

Australia's ladies passed through the whole competition unbeaten, vanquishing England 3-0 in Group B, and they advanced from the semi-last with a 7-1 win over South Africa.

Yet they were put under serious scrutiny via England and needed to contend energetically to claim their third back to back Commonwealth gold.

The principal half finished goalless, notwithstanding Kellie White going close for the Australians.

They were left paralyzed after the break when 19-year-old Owsley transformed the ball into the net after some imaginative play from Susie Gilbert.

England's guard held out until Australia earned two punishment corners in the last moment and Kenny in the end bored in the equalizer.

The English had beaten New Zealand in a shootout in the semi-finals however couldn't rehash their heroics as Alex Danson, Gilbert and Nicola White all neglected to beat Australia attendant Rachael Lynch, and they lost 3-1.
